Christopher Roche Accident Mahopac, NY Death, Obituary – New York Road Accident Claims Father of Seven as GAA Community Mourns

Tributes are being paid to Christopher “Cricky” Roche, a beloved father of seven and talented GAA footballer and hurler whose life was tragically cut short following a road traffic accident in New York on October 2, 2026.

The 56-year-old Irishman was a much-loved member of Gaeil Colmcille in Kells, County Meath, where he made a lasting impression both on and off the field. Roche was remembered as a wonderfully talented footballer and hurler and played an important role in the club’s 1991 Meath Senior Championship victory.

Although Christopher later built a new life in America, his connection to Kells and Gaeil Colmcille remained strong. His former club described him as a proud Kells man, a true clubman and a great servant to his home parish team. Those who knew him from his playing days remembered not only his sporting ability, but also the friendship, character and spirit he brought to the club.

His death has left his wife, Siobhan Roche, their seven children, extended family and friends facing an unimaginable loss. According to a fundraising appeal established by a close friend of the family, Siobhan was also involved in the crash and remains in critical condition in hospital while fighting for her recovery.

Gaeil Colmcille expressed its deepest sympathy to the Roche family, remembering Christopher not only as a 1991 championship winner, but as a son of Kells, a footballer, hurler, friend and family man who meant so much to many people.

The club said his roots remained an important part of who he was despite his life across the Atlantic, and that the memories of his time with Gaeil Colmcille would remain part of its history.

As family and friends grieve Christopher’s tragic death, tributes continue to highlight the impact he made throughout his life. His legacy will live on through his seven children, loved ones and the GAA community that will remember him as one of its own.
