More than 500 mourners gathered in Geelong, Victoria, to farewell Andrew Lyon, a beloved father of three and dedicated paramedic whose sudden death at the age of 42 left his family, colleagues, and wider community grieving. His funeral became a powerful tribute to a man remembered for his compassion, professional commitment, and the meaningful relationships he built throughout his life.
Lyon, who lived in Bannockburn, died suddenly on September 17, 2026. He leaves behind his wife, Alannah Carson, and their three young children, Sophie, Harvey, and Austin. His passing has prompted an outpouring of support for his family and tributes from people who knew him personally and worked alongside him.
A respected mobile intensive care ambulance paramedic, Lyon dedicated almost 15 years to Ambulance Victoria. Throughout his career, he served communities including Ararat, Ballarat, Geelong, and Bannockburn. He was remembered for his clinical expertise, reliability, warmth, and willingness to support colleagues while providing care to patients in difficult circumstances.
At the funeral, Ambulance Victoria chief executive Jordan Emery paid tribute to Lyon’s skill and dedication. Other heartfelt reflections came from his father, Robert, his father-in-law, John Carson, his best friend, Levi Martin, and his wife, Alannah.
