Jacqueline Mary Jones, 52, has been remembered with deep affection following her death in a crash at a railway crossing in Invercargill, New Zealand.
The Taieri woman was the only occupant of a vehicle that was struck by a locomotive at the Mill Rd South railway crossing about 1.20pm on Friday, September 18. Emergency services attended the scene, but Ms Jones died as a result of the crash.
In a death notice, her family described Jacqueline as a much-loved daughter, sister and aunty, remembering her as a dearly loved member of the family and a treasured aunty.
Friends have also shared heartfelt tributes, describing Jacqueline as a loving and generous person who brought a positive and caring attitude to the lives of those around her.
Tributes posted through Campbell & Sons Funeral Services described her as someone whose bright and bubbly personality left a lasting impression. One friend wrote that the world was “a sadder place without Jackie,” reflecting the grief felt by those who knew her.
Jacqueline’s love of bright colours and fragrant flowers will also be reflected in her funeral arrangements. Her family has said bright colours are welcome at the service, particularly because she loved bright, fragrant flowers, with lilies among her favourites.
Her life will be celebrated at Wingatui Racecourse on Monday, followed by a private cremation.
The fatal crash occurred at a railway crossing protected by flashing lights and bells. Following the collision, State Highway 1 was closed between Mill Rd North and the Racecourse Rd roundabout for several hours while emergency crews and police responded and investigations were carried out.
Police inquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.
As Jacqueline’s family, friends and wider community remember her, tributes have highlighted the warmth, generosity and positive spirit she brought to those around her. Her death has left loved ones mourning a woman remembered not only as a cherished family member, but as a bright and caring friend.
