The Mandan, North Dakota, community is mourning the loss of Benjamin “Ben” Moch, a Mandan High School student and beloved member of the Mandan Braves hockey program who died from injuries suffered in a fatal crash in Bismarck.
According to the Bismarck Police Department, Moch was a passenger in a Chevrolet Equinox involved in the October 2 collision. He was ejected during the crash and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. After fighting for his life, Ben died from his injuries Monday afternoon.
Ben was well known within the Mandan hockey community. He wore number 11 for the Mandan High School hockey team and was also a member of the school’s Peer2Peer club. His abilities on the ice were recognized during the 2025–26 season, when he was named to the West Region All-Conference team.
His hockey statistics reflect the important role he played for Mandan. During the 2025–26 season, Ben recorded eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 24 regular-season games.
The Mandan hockey program shared an emotional message following his death, saying that their hearts were hurting and that the loss of their number 11 would be felt far beyond the locker room.
