Antonio Navarrete Accident, Death, Tampa, FL Obituary – Community Remembers Beloved Young Man

Antonio Navarrete, a young Tampa-area man whose life was tragically cut short following a workplace accident, is remembered by family and friends for his caring heart, warm personality and love of cars.

Navarrete was 21 when he died on July 5, 2017, from severe injuries suffered in an industrial accident at Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Plant in Apollo Beach on June 29. He was working as a contractor for BRACE Industrial Group when the accident occurred.

The accident involved molten-hot slag rushing from a coal stack, seriously injuring several workers. Navarrete initially survived the incident but remained critically injured before dying nearly a week later. His death became the third fatality connected to the accident at the time.

For those who knew Antonio personally, however, he was much more than the circumstances of his death. His cousin Alicia Perez remembered him as someone with a caring heart and a personality that drew people toward him. She recalled him as someone who was always dancing and whose presence brought happiness to those around him.

Antonio was also known for his love of cars, a passion that remained an important part of his identity. His family and friends described the young man as someone who was deeply loved by those who knew him.

His death was especially heartbreaking for his family because Antonio was shortly expected to become a father for the first time. A family fundraiser established following his death noted the significant medical and funeral expenses faced by his loved ones and thanked the community for its prayers and support.

The tragedy left Antonio’s family, friends and coworkers grieving a young life taken far too soon. Those who knew him continued to remember his kindness, his personality and the memories he created with the people closest to him.
